Hey. Maybe everyone should introduce themselves on this thread.
I'll start.
I'm Matt, the new president, and I'm at Fitz.

Sounds like a plan!

I'm Rob, from Robinson - I've been President twice (03-04, 05-06) and I'm now the Junior Treasurer. I play too much pool.

Hello! Believe it or not, I'm Jenny. I'm also women's vice-capt, so get used to me & my overly affectionate ways! I'm at Pembroke, where the pool table is a fairly sorry affair, bummer. xV

Hi all, I'm James, and I played for the (successful) varsity team last year. This year I'm going to be captain of the B-team. Also I'm one of the few humanities students who play this game, so to all you humanities students out there: come to the trials in October - we're not all natsci geeks!

p.s. apologies to all you natsci geeks winking smiley

Yeah, but it survived that, hardy Pembroke-ware as it is. What it didn't survive so well is the multiple and varied break-in attempts on its 20p-stash (almost always empty anyway), and then the summer school students didn't help, using it as a general beverage holder/seat/beer-pong table. Bloody foreigners.

Hi people,

I'm graham, another member of the victorious varsity team last year. Some of you may associate me with the word 'um-bongo'. Some of you may not, in which case this is probably best left unexplained. Sometimes i have been called 'skills', which contrary to popular belief is not actually a reflection of my ability at pool, it is just conveniently similar to my surname winking smiley

Hi, I'm Ryan, I've been previously referred to as "7-ball", relevant to my pool playing but not in the way I'd hope! Anyone who can remember back to BUSA last year will know why...

The Pembroke table may be crap, but does Si Williams technique of kicking it still get you a free game??

I've been shown/told of many ways to get free games, hence money stash always being empty. Last one I had demonstrated involved lifting the top off the table & reaching inside to flick the catch to release the balls - you need long & fairly slim arms though...

Hello everyone, I'm John. I'm met some people at the novice's tournament the other weekend... which I might add was thoroughly enjoyable. I've played for a couple of years in the Cambridge area league but only joined the CUPC this year. I'm a 4th year PhD at Hughes Hall (which has a shocking table - probably the worst in cambridge!).

Awesome, good to hear from you again Si! How do you like the message boards? I'm hoping they'll get a bit busier once the leagues and Cuppers get underway, but they're pretty quiet at the moment. There's just no-one here who can match your legendary powers of chat winking smiley

it's not a competition, rob; there are no losers in the pursuit of fine banter. we are all mountainers scaling the north face of adversity.

when the next pro/am tournament appears, let me know and i'll do my best to make it over.

how did your uk amateur go? i'm guessing you didn't win or i would have heard you giving some hulk hogan-esque shirt ripping roar of triumph...

hi all, peterhouse 2nd team captain, resident dj and random banter generator par excellence. robinson may remember me as the chap whose music was forcibly removed from the jcr during their recent match against peterhouse 1sts. a sorry episode indeed.

I'm Dunstan. I was on the better of last year's varsity teams. By better I mean in terms of banter, drinking and staying out late. I don't really remember what happened in the pool, conveniently enough. I'm sure that it was close though. I'm at John's and I talk too much.

Ryan you make me sound so brutish! nice in an ego-tickling way, but a bit concerning in a german way! those of you who are seasoned CUPC banter-veterans will understand.

just been perusing your message boards and am pleased that the banter is alive and well. keep up the good work and...

A MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all.

try not to work too hard and remember to keep practicing the pool or rob will be taking money off you in january...

Jenny - would/should i remember you? i left in 2005 and my withered and haggard old brain has temporarily clogged my memory with thoughts of werthers originals and columbo (or whatever it is that old people think of these days).

any chance of a picture? not in a pervy way - just because i'm concerned that i only left 15 months ago and i'm forgetting far too much!

saw pembroke on university challenge yesterday. didn't exactly go well but hey!

Don't you worry, I only turned up in 2005, after you left (sadly...?).

Bastard. Now I have a deathly craving for Werthers, but no desire to head out to the shops through the fog...

As for uni challenge, well Parvizi & Allen are two of my closest friends, so I knew what to expect. Still, a bunch of freshers held their own against the team of old men pretty well I think!
