Oxford 38 - 16 Cambridge
Report by Jen Rolfe
I could write a long-winded account of every game we played (as certain people like to do) but there's no point, because I can't remember where
all the balls were as each shot was taken on all 54 frames! What I will say is this, when considering how long we'd known the rules for and how
often we practice, we played a blinder. Even Oxford will admit (although probably not in public) that the score-line in no way reflects how
close the match was. We matched them easily on potting ability but lost out on stamina (who knew that 3 frames could take 2 hours?!!) and lack
of experience with strange rules. I won't bother to go through who won what because everybody played well and almost every game went down to the
black. I'm really proud of the whole team and we had a wicked time both training and playing on the day. The best thing we've all got out of it
(although it's cheesy) is a load of new mates and the potential for a brilliant team next year when we can play normal rules - yay! Credit to
the Oxford players too, if spending all your free time in the local snooker centre doesn't get you a win at varsity then what will!
Well done to both teams, it was a great day.
P.S. extra credit to our team who played on ridiculously empty stomachs as we didn't get given our 'lunch' until nearly 4.30pm!
P.P.S. the Oxford streets will never be the same again after Ali tried to redesign the curb with her head after considerable downing of red wine! ;-)
