Cambridge University Novices' Tournament 2008
The 2008 Novices' Tournament was held on Sunday, October 12th at Cambridge Snooker Centre. The competition was open to anyone who had played neither in Varsity nor the CU Masters. Twenty novices entered and five university players also participated in the first stage.
Relja Arandjelovic claimed the title, coming through some tough matches before overturning a three frame deficit to beat Chris Bryant in the final.
Knockout Stage
Thirteen qualifiers from the group stages went on to compete in the knockout stage, with three random group winners receiving first round byes.
Group stage
The tournament began with a group stage. Groups A to E were made up of four players including one experienced university level player (italics). The top two players excluding the uni player qualified through to the knockout stage. Group F consisted of five novices with the top three qualifying.
